Eighteen years ago, when my son was born, I wanted to introduce him to his Italian heritage as early as possible. As a first-generation Italian American, I knew how important it was for children to hear the language of their family, their grandparents, and their ancestors.

I wanted my child to grow up with a connection to Italy — not only through stories and traditions, but through the sound of the Italian language itself.

That is how Giovanni the Italian Speaking Bear was born.

Giovanni was the very first product I designed and produced for Italian Children’s Market. He was created with love, purpose, and a deep desire to help children living outside of Italy feel connected to their Italian roots.

Today, after 18 years, Giovanni remains one of our most beloved and popular toys.

And now, he is joined by his sweet companion, Giuliana the Italian Speaking Bear.

Who Are Giovanni and Giuliana?

Giovanni and Giuliana are soft, cuddly Italian speaking teddy bears designed to introduce children to the beautiful language of Italy.

Each bear speaks only Italian, making them a fun and natural way for children to hear authentic Italian words, greetings, phrases, and songs. Their voices belong to native Italian children, giving little ones the opportunity to listen to real Italian pronunciation in a playful and comforting way.

Giovanni and Giuliana were thoughtfully designed by Isabella Centofanti, founder of Italian Children’s Market.

As a first-generation Italian American, Isabella created these bears so that children could begin learning about their Italian heritage from the earliest years of life. Her hope was simple: to give children a soft, lovable way to hear Italian, feel connected to their roots, and grow up with pride in where their family came from.

Both bears are extra cuddly and beautifully dressed in the bright colors of the Italian flag. Their red, white, and green details celebrate Italy in a cheerful way that children love.
